One of the main drawers and illustrators of the Twentieth-century and yet librettist and prose writer. Very young member of the DEVETSIL, he soon abandoned oil painting to devote himself exclusively to caricature portrait and he became an unsurpassed master (one of his shows was opened by the poet Majakovskij in Paris in ’28). Later on, drawing was replaced by collage, in which the powerful fascination of Max Ernst was filtered through the “poetic” glance he never abandoned.
In this way the fantastic cycles and beautiful illustrations for Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days were born.
To be remembered the cycle devoted to F.Kafka in the 60’s.
