Carmine Calvanese was born in Salerno in 1956.
From 1985 he has been living and working in Vittorio Veneto, Treviso.
He studied ceramics at the Art Institute; he graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples.
He is one of the most significant exponents of the “ironic conceptualism” which is becoming popular in Italy. His work denotes a wide dose of irreverent and caustic derision of many common places of the collective imagination, in tune with that part of the historical Conceptualism better representing the Italian “genius loci”. From an aesthetic point of view, the works appear characterized by a creative eclecticism, decoration is widely allowed; painting is frequently used and is expressed by means of analytic and conceptual modules or “primary” action on the conceptual repertoire. In the frequent use of figures from the ludic imaginary of childhood, we assist to a work composition, which makes use of synthetic materials and plastic derivates suitable to the realization of live and sound coloration.
