Flaviano Poggi was born in Florence and has been active from the Eighties. After using his body in performances, from the end of the Nineties his artistic projects have been focusing mainly on video and digital photography.
His photographic works cross the pure photography because they attain from the aesthetic of the archive file, from the “real chronicle”.
Images dealing with the theme of violence, death, indifference, arising an emotive empathy in the consumer, elected as “first” spectator of a life “burnt” in a single instant.
Every work has been staged in a set: situations deprived of any “blood shed” connecting tones of strong visual impact, recalling to simply evoked acts. The intention is a reflection on no minor aspects of the world we are living in – a paradise lost forever… - and this is what gives substance to his poetic.
Each project has been conceived and realised according to a very careful scheme, never casual, in which the relation established between two specific realities like the human figure and the environment surrounding it are essential to allure the attention towards different poles, not similar.
The spatial dimension, at first glance, appears like an independent element, leading to aesthetic speculation and little by little another component starts to delineate the corporeity that clearly assumes its own value, subject of the brutal act to which the work narrative impact converges – the “staging” materializing the sense of intrusion of the human element, violated in a specific spatial contest.
All his works are named by a date distinguishing them and temporarily indicating the snap shot recalling the cruelty in the communication of daily chronicle.
In his video works as well is the human figure central and “the” fact, the unexpected event, unusual in its form breaks in and misleads: “stories” whose meanings are amplified through sudden connections between moving image, structured sign, sound trace. Everything appears to be functional in its vision of the whole, a thought vision realized with rigour.
