Kurt Schwitters (Hannover 1887 – Ambleside, Westmorland, 1948)

After studying at the Dresden Academy and after expressionist and cubistic experiences he started his partecipation to Dadaism in 1919, adopting the term Merz (from the word Kommerz) to indicate his pictoric and literary production; the first “Merz pictures”, collage of different materials, were realized in that year.
