EXHIBITION n.93
ARTIST: DAVIDE COLTRO
CURATED BY: MAURIZIO SCIACCALUGA
PERIOD: 01 OCTOBER – 04 DECEMBER 2005

Notwithstanding that they don’t seem aggressive, notwithstanding that they don’t have dominant fascination or calming effect – but rather a calmness still to demonstrate, impose and compel from above - the works by David Coltro instead are ready to leave an impression, amaze, scratch. With the stupefying simplicity of those mysteries, or of the surprises, contained in daily life. There are not only future images – still unknown – setting to trap one who has chosen to gain and to look at the works in the dark, allowing themselves to the superior the Grande controller Coltro, they are not only colours real cancelled e recovered – raped – of the medium tone to launch in the air the questionable tone for a question mark (?); the mystery – of CSI or the X-files – is in the unreal silence of the panorama, in the absolute void of sound in all the places represented. The mystery isn’t that which is in the works, but in that which isn’t there: missing are the passing signs of life, missing is the racket of joy and of the drama, missing are the rhythm of the beating hearts. These crime scenes, these future scenes, these spots from a “Big Brother”, these splits from far away worlds don’t have a sound track: they pass by (physically, as never before in a work of art) without a word, one after another without warning, they accelerate without increasing the rpms. Something, well, doesn’t fit: life is noisy, a tremendous and deafening noise. Is it the dream to proceed silently: that someone is robbing the imagination and the nightmares of the artist? The gallery, La giarina, presents the new Systems by Davide Coltro, rebelling machines of which are not short on affinity with the imaginary techno-apocalypse of Aldous Huxley, H.G. Wells and Michel Houellebecq. After nothing will be the same. Above all the pictures and photographs.
