In the second half of the ‘50s he was one among the young artists developing the spatialist research of L. Fontana in Italy; the first Achromes date back to 1957, colourless surfaces in which the material surface was particularly enhanced (fibreglass, cotton wool, polystyrene).
Manzoni was together with Castellani and Agnetti founder of the magazine Azimuth. His work was deeply influenced by Dadaism. Today he is considered as one of the forerunners of the conceptual trends.
