André Masson

(Balagny –sur-Thérain, 1896- Parigi, 1987)
After an initial cubist period, he joined surrealism in 1923. In 1927 he started creating sand drawings with pictorial and structural intents. Later on, he adopted the technique of painting directly from the colour tube. In the paintings inspired to Spain Civil War (1936) he revealed an essentially rhythmic and graphic sensitivity. Since 1945 he became interested in abstract art.
